Facial Masks - Part I

The use of many masks, especially to tighten the skin, remove horn cells that are ready to peel, smooth and brighten the skin, increase skin cell metabolism, increase blood circulation and lymph, give a fresh taste and provide nutrition to the surface, so the skin looks bright, healthy, smooth and tight.


At present, many types of masks are traded, some in the form of powder, cream, and gel, and some are even made of paper and plastic. Homemade masks from natural ingredients such as fruit, vegetables, and eggs can also be an option. The covers are applied with the help of a special brush to mask the face, neck, and shoulders, and upper chest, except for the eyes and lips because these parts are susceptible. While waiting for the mask to dry, apply eye-cream around the eyes and lip-conditioner on the lips. This is intended to avoid skin dryness around the eyes and lips.

To obtain maximum results, when wearing a mask, avoid talking or laughing, sneezing or coughing, moving parts of the face like wrinkling the forehead, wrinkling the mouth, and moving the neck or head. So in the use of this mask, the neck and face must be completed in a state of rest or rest and with a slightly upright face position.

Types of masks:

Powder Mask

Powder masks are the earliest and most popular form of cover. Many cosmetics producers, both traditional and modern, produce this type of powder mask. Usually, powder masks are made from mashed ingredients, and their water content is taken. Choose a powder mask that suits your skin type. How to make it is to mix one tablespoon of powder mask with rose water to taste, then stir until blended and apply on face, neck, shoulders, and upper chest using a special brush for a smooth mask. The direction of the application should be from the bottom up and let it dry, which is about + 15 minutes. When lifting the veil that has dried on the face, the mask should not be immediately removed with a towel, wet the mask covered first until the mask is wet again, then removed using a washcloth or a warm moist cloth to clean.

Cream Masks

The use of a cream mask is efficient and comfortable. Now available cream masks for various types of skin, which are packaged in tube packs. One other advantage of a cream mask is that it can be combined with various kinds of mask ingredients. Therefore this mask is the right choice for those who have combination skin. For dry areas, use a mask for dry skin, while for oily areas such as the T area, use a mask for oily skin. Wear a cream mask on the face and neck, wait for it to dry (+15 minutes), and remove it using a warm, moist towel.

Gel Mask

The gel mask is also one of the practice covers because after it dries, the mask can be removed immediately without the need to rinse. Gel masks are commonly known as peel-off masks. The benefits of gel masks include removing dirt and dead skin cells so the skin becomes clean and feels fresh. Gel masks can also restore skin freshness and softness, even with regular use, gel masks can reduce fine wrinkles on the facial skin.

The way these peel-off mask works is different from other types of masks. When released, usually, the dirt and epidermis that have died will come up. The function of a peel-off cover is the same as a scrub cream. Therefore if you choose to use a peel-off mask, you should not use it with peeling/scrubbing. Give at least seven days to do both. Otherwise, the skin will exfoliate twice with a relatively short grace period that is not enough to regenerate. As a result, the skin will look dull and not radiant.

Currently, on the market, there are available gel masks that contain alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) from plant and fruit juices. Types of AHAs that are made for this gel mask include glycolic acid found in sugar cane plants, lactic acid in sour milk and citric acid in oranges. Because of its acidic nature, peel-off covers are suitable for those who have acne nitrosica or pimples that have caused pockmarks or holes. In this condition, the skin needs additional nutrients found in glycolic acid.

Paper or Cloth Masks

Paper or cloth type masks usually contain natural ingredients that can shed dead skin cells, help disguise blemishes or black spots, shrink pores, and soften wrinkles on the face. Besides, this mask can stimulate the growth of new skin cells and make the skin more radiant.

Paper masks are usually sheet-like faces with several holes in the eyes, nose, and mouth. While the fabric mask in the form of small rolls that must be deciphered. Paper masks or cloths before use must be dyed or moistened with certain liquids according to skin needs, which include:

essential oil
liquid moisturizer
vegetable or fruit juices
special serum for the face
pure water (H2O) which can refresh tired skin
pure milk that can remove impurities, smooth the skin and brighten skin color
cold water that can shrink pores
