Foods That Should Not be Given to Children Under 1 Year of Age

Every parent expects their child to grow up healthily without any problems. To make this happen, parents must know the needs of their children. Parents need to provide the best food for children.

Because you want to introduce healthy food from an early age, it doesn't mean that your little one can eat all food. Remember that the antibodies in the baby's body are not functioning optimally. Sometimes, the baby's body can overreact because of specific food ingredients. Therefore, you should be more careful about monitoring what is consumed by your little one.

Of the many foods available, here are some foods that should not be consumed by babies under one year.

Honey
For adults, honey is a beneficial food ingredient. However, for babies, honey can have a negative effect. Honey contains the bacteria Clostridium botulinum, which is harmful to babies.

These bacteria can cause poisoning called botulism poisoning. This poisoning is a severe disease. Some of the signs are, the baby looks weak, has difficulty defecating, has trouble swallowing and breathing, and cries not as loudly as usual.

Fresh Cow Milk
Fresh cow's milk is not suitable for babies because it will burden the baby's digestive organs. For this reason, never use raw cow's milk as an alternative to breast milk. If the mother cannot breastfeed, the choice is to use formula milk.

However, cow's milk found in yogurt or cakes is safe enough for babies to consume.

Tea
Adults may like this drink. However, tea should not be given to babies. Tea contains tannins, which are substances that can interfere with the process of absorption of iron into the body. On the other hand, the baby's need for iron is higher than that of adults.

So that the baby is not deficient in iron, which can cause anemia, you should avoid tea. Apart from the tannin content, tea also contains caffeine, which can disrupt children's sleep patterns.

Seafood
Several types of seafood, such as shrimp, lobster, shellfish, and crab, are very likely to trigger allergies in babies. If you want to process seafood as complementary foods, you should first consult your doctor, especially for babies under one year.

Salt
The baby's body cannot process salt because the kidneys are not fully developed. Excess salt (sodium) can accumulate in the baby's body and risk damaging the baby's vital organs. For that, you should avoid salt in babies aged one year.

The salt content that can be consumed by babies is only 1 gram per day. For babies under one year of age, you should not add salt to their food.

Those are the five foods that should not be given to babies under one year. The baby's organs are still in the process of development, so they cannot process food like adults.
